The time has come to sell my Mercedes E500.
If your looking at the car you probably know what it is !
This car was a joint venture between Mercedes and Porsche.
These cars were built between 1991 to 1994 and Porsche had the task of redesigning the chassis so the massive M119 5. 0 litre 322bhp V8 could be fitted, they also engineered the necessary modifications to the suspension. Each car was hand built and took 18 days to complete, the final assembly being carried out by Porsche as the revised body was too wide with its flared arches for the Mercedes production line.
My car is a facelift model and was first registered in Germany in November 1993 where it stayed for 4 years, in this time it had its relevant services carried out by Mercedes.
In May 1997 it was registered here in the UK. It carried on having main dealer Mercedes servicing up until 2004, the servicing was then handled by specialist Mercedes garages. In the service book there are 12 main dealer service stamps and 9 Mercedes specialist stamps, with loads of invoices to back up the service work.
One particular Mercedes bill even shows a brand new automatic transmission was fitted in 2002 at 129000km.
Another bill totals £2662 and shows a complete ignition system overhaul and engine loom.
The car is finished in brilliant silver and has a black leather interior. It has all the features expected, electric windows, mirrors, sunroof & aerial, electric seats, cruise control, ABS, ASR, Air conditioning with the newer R134a gas due to it being a facelift car. There is also a rather nice Becker Mexico Pro cd player with iPod connector.
The exterior of the car is all standard apart from a set of H&R lowering spring fitted front and rear.
During my ownership I have carried out numerous jobs.
I have subtly updated the audio system with a set of Jehnert door builds from Germany. The Jehnert door builds mirror the original Mercedes door pockets but incorporate 2 woofers in each front door, have a set of Mids and Tweeters in the dash and a pair of crossovers, I have mated the new speakers to a four channel Rockford Fosgate P400X4 amp mounted in the boot.
I have just had a complete new headliner installed due to the original liner starting to sag (common problem).
Another known problem is corrosion under the battery tray which is located in the boot due to no room in the engine bay. This has been professionally repaired with genuine Mercedes parts so is once again as new.
The car has just benefited from a major service this month (June 20) which included, oil and filter change, air filters, pollen filters, spark plugs fuel filter, (all genuine Mercedes filters) new front brake discs and pads, flexi brake hoses and a brake fluid change.
The car is in fantastic condition and has wanted for nothing in my ownership and certainly does not look 27 years old, it still drives silky smooth, has loads of power and is surprisingly quick, feeling like it could easily achieve its 6 sec 0-60 or 160 mph claimed top speed.
