Description
The w113 was created to minimize the gap between the 190 SL and 300 SL performance. The M127 engine’s greater output was applied through a sophisticated new platform that permitted agile handling and impressive lap times. Performance aside, the w113’s engineers incorporated both comfort and safety features such as enhanced passenger cell rigidity, built-in impact absorbing sections and thickened hardtop pillars.
The 230 SL offered here was produced 2 years after the model’s introduction in 1963’s Geneva Motor Show and delivered to its Swiss owner. Its options included a fluid coupled automatic transmission and a matching colored hardtop. In 1989 it was imported in the UK to be partly restored by a marque expert. At the owner’s request the seats were upgraded to 1967 w113 offering lateral support and head restraint safety. Its UK owner had it imported in Greece where it was treated with Mercedes-Benz supplied leather trim and Sonnenland softop. In the spring of 2020 the engine was fully maintained with new filters and fluids. The body was also detailed and the interior preserved. It is offered with FIA and FIVA Certificates classified A/ 2 as well as a comprehensive ownership and service file.
