This is a pristine example of a 1986 Subaru XT, which has been in the current owner’s possession since 1989. The car was built in 1986 and registered in 1987 as a works demonstrator for Subaru main dealer Mauger’s Garage in Jersey.
Produced in the mid 80's this car was futuristic inside and out, in both styling and features not common on a small car, such as adjustable air suspension and a turbo. It also has an aircraft cockpit themed instrument cluster and controls, pioneering features such as a single windscreen wiper and flush door handle flaps.
The first owner, a retired British Aerospace designer, purchased the car for those very design reasons. On his passing the car came on the market via a local Jaguar dealer and was then purchased by the current owner, who was working for the Subaru dealership at the time and had worked on the car.
He used it at weekends and for trips away until the early 1990s and it has subsequently had infrequent use, but was always serviced and maintained to dealership standards. It has always been garaged only coming out several times a year on good weather days.
In the meticulously clean engine bay you will find the original engine and gearbox, the car is still running on the original brake pads and disks. The car has a fuel injected turbo charged 1. 8L flat-four boxer engine. The 5-speed manual gearbox has on the fly selectable four wheel drive. The car is fitted with pneumatic high controlled self levelling air suspension system.
Owing to being continuously garaged since it was purchased by the original owner, the original light blue metallic/ white body work is immaculate, with no rust and in original condition. The car has not been driven on wed roads for at least 25 years. It has a factory fitted sunroof.
The Stock hub caps maintain the aviation/ geometric styling.
Very futuristic aviation styled “cockpit” interior including the aircraft joystick looking manual gear lever (the red button selects 4WD).
Overall a very tidy interior, with blue check velour seats and trim.
This is an excellent example of this striking wedge shaped 80’s car which also comes with more! This includes: memorabilia of the dealership signs, brochure, workshop manuals and many, many parts, both body and mechanical, including wings, doors, bonnet, boot lid and suspension and engine parts.
