Description
Simply the best looking 60's sports moped / small motorcycle in my humble opinion.
The 60's was a hotbed of development for small two strokes, and Suzuki was making fantastical creations like the 14 speed, twin cylinder RK67 (see last pic) with which to take in the might of Honda and the East Europeans, after stealing their secrets (See the Excellent Mat Oxley book, Stealing Speed).
The AS50 was designed to benefit from a little bit of this glory. With it's single seat, racing seat cowl, upswept exhaust and 'works replica' paint it really looked the part. And with the 5 speed gearbox it performed too. FS1Es and the like were running 4 speeds for years.
This bike was restored a number of years ago but has been stored for some years. Upgraded to 70cc, and equipped with electronic ignition to avoid the issues that come with points and a condenser, it's a really usable little piece of history.
It was fed some fresh petrol and oil recently and started up third kick after the carb was cleaned - video is available of it running if required. Mileage is showing 20, 000 but should not be relied on. Bike is currenlt on SORN.
All chromework was redone when it was restored and presents in good condition, and original fasteners were used; even down to the lovely engine bolts with the Suzuki 'S' on them.
The electronic ignition also has a lighting coil allowing battery removal while keeping all electrics; lights, indicators, horn, etc working - meaning that you don't need to worry about keeping a battery charged for when you need to use the bike.
There's also a collection of parts including three barrels, pistons, rings, etc, that can be included at a negotiable price
All in all a really nice little bike and a bit more special than your average fizzy.
