For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 3 in Limestone (1972).
Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Overdrive. 7 Seater. Stainless Steel Exhaust. Free Wheeling Hubs. Sold by us previously in 2015. Rear Mudflaps. Station Wagon Configuration. 12v Socket.
We are delighted to present for sale this Series 3 Land Rover®, in rare limestone colour scheme. We have sold this vehicle previously back in 2015, and have found ourselves in a position to repurchase it, as the previous keeper sold to fund an early retirement! In this time, it has proven to be wholly reliable, only needing regular and routine maintenance – great to see and good news for a future keeper. It also has an overdrive fitted, a very expensive option which we do not normally see on standard petrol engined vehicles due to cost when new.
Externally, this Series benefits from the rare limestone colour scheme – with limestone wheels, body and roof. There is a front sun-visor fitted too. The spare is housed on the rear door, just like a later defender. There are lots of little modern upgrades – the towball and electrics, the side and rear folding steps to allow easier passenger entry, defender mounted door mirrors for better visibility and rear mudflaps. Lots of period features also still survive such as the vintage numberplates, the rear grabhandles and the front towball – very useful if you need to move a trailer into a tight space! All things considered, we think this culminates in a Series 3 that really looks the part.
On the inside there are 3 front seats, and as the photos show, it is clean and tidy. There are a set of deluxe mats to the footwells. A 12v socket is mounted in the dash (discreetly hidden from view) in front of the passenger, useful for a sat nav, or charging phones etc. The rear is fitted with twin bench seats, to allow seating for seven including the driver. The rear windows give a station wagon effect – it feels light and airy inside, and with the ability to take 7 people, can take the whole family too.
Out on the road, this vehicle drives just as it should. It delivers a pleasing period drive, with a keen petrol engine and a nice exhaust note too. The previous keeper kept the vehicle garaged at all times when not in use, and because of his care and attention, it drives just as we remember. This vehicle has an overdrive too, which is great to see – this makes cruising quieter, gives better fuel economy, and gives more flexibility when driving on the road – unlike most other vehicles, the overdrive can be used in ANY gear, in high or low ratio should circumstances demand. It also means 55-60mph is easily achievable as a cruising speed.
In summary, if you are looking for a largely standard Series 3 Land Rover® that can take the whole family to the beach, the pub, or the park, then this could be for you. With MOT & Tax Exemption, along with classic insurance, it should prove cheap to run long-term whilst also being a solid investment for the future.
