Fantastic & rare Obsidian Black/ Exclusive Grey low mileage, FSH SL 55 AMG Performance Package.
The Mercedes Benz R230 SL55 AMG is an animal to say the least. Powered by a 5. 4L supercharged V8, which produces in excess of 500 bhp, the SL received high praise from the motoring press at its time of release, with Evo describing the V8 as a ‘Torque-fest of an engine’. However, the car listed here is no ordinary SL55 AMG. This example is one of very few F1 Performance Package cars, often referred to at the ‘Pace Car’ edition, which was closely derived from the 2002 FIA F1 Safety Car.
Changes from the standard car include an extensive range of visual modifications to the bodywork, the engine cooling system, LSD, brakes and suspension. AMG based the set up for this car on that of official FIA Safety Car driver Bernd Mayländer’s car. It is worth noting the Performance Pack shares several of its upgraded features, such as the 19" AMG Double Spoke Wheels with the V12 powered SL65 AMG.
This car was originally delivered in June 2005, making it one of the later cars delivered to the UK. With just four previous owners in 15 years and single ownership until 2016, it’s evident that this car has been cared for and likely garaged for most, if not all of its life. The way the car starts and runs is a testament to how it has been looked after.
Costing close to £110, 000 when new, this car is extremely highly specified, with options such as metallic Obsidian Black paintwork, Parktronic System, Keyless Go, Exclusive Grey Leather, Designo Alcantara Anthracite roof & binnacle interior trim, cruise control and panoramic glass vario roof.
This meticulously maintained example benefits from a full main dealer and Mercedes Benz specialist service history, including a full service in December 2020 by Mercedes Benz specialist Starwerks.
Furthermore, the previous owner took a ‘no expense spared’ attitude to maintenance on the vehicle. The car comes with extensive paperwork and invoices. A prime example of this money no object attitude is a bill to the previous owner from Mercedes Beaconsfield for £1, 300 to restore the AMG alloy wheels.
However, it is not just the mechanics of the car which have benefitted recently. The front bumper, bonnet, wings and rear bumper have just been resprayed to an OEM standard with a manufacturer-approved body shop to bring the outside appearance of the car up to scratch with what is under the bonnet. Naturally, after 15 years and 50, 000 miles on the road the car had collected some stone chips and scratches, however, it is now virtually stone chip-free and shining like the day it left the factory.

Cons:
Unfortunately, the car is flagged on HPI as having a mileage discrepancy. One MOT shows a lower mileage than the previous. This could be human error at the MOT centre, however, it is impossible to say for sure. A specialist plugged the car in and read the mileage from the ECU, which agrees with the odometer. I have paperwork to prove this.
Interior would benefit from a detail to bring it up to scratch with the rest of the car
Some marks on the interior due to general wear and tear, and the light colour
AMG floor mats are missing
Car is de-badged, which is a look many like, however, not everyone
Personalised registration not included with the sale
Engine bay is tidy but could also benefit from a detail
Head unit is not original, which might not be to everyone’s taste
