1949 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith Freestone & Webb Saloon
Chassis number: WGC19
Registration number: 565XUX
The property of Sir Jack Hayward for 63 years. He was chairman of Wolverhampton Wanderers for many years & also had substantial business interests both in the UK & in the Bahamas. The car was shipped to the Bahamas during his tenure of the machine & reserved when there for the exclusive use of himself & the governor. He was often seen driving or being driven in the car never with out a union jack pennant fluttering from the radiator mounted flag staff which remains on the car to this day. Assorted memorabia comes with the car including a book on sir Jack & an original period Silver Wraith Brochure & road test by autocar.
This is a car that has been impeccably maintained with an unbroken set of service bills from West Hothly Garage spanning many years. In more recent times it has been looked after by Ted Overton with around £20k in recent bills from him. As a result of this continued regular maintenance the car is in superb mechanical condition & is one of the best driving Silver Wraiths I have experienced. The brakes are pin sharp, Suspension soft & undulating whilst the engine remains powerful yet imperceptible.
Coachwork in Aluminium is by Freestone & Webb with a beautifully sweeping design to the rear. The 4 coach doors are all of the front opening variety. To the roof is a large sunroof, fully operational giving the rear quarters a very light & airy feel.
The interior is original West of England cloth to the rear in excellent condition with lightly patinated cream leather to the front. The car is equipped with a division that glides up & down at the touch of a button. All wood work has been removed & refinished to like new & is really spectacular. Twin large fold out picnic tables with inset vanity mirrors are located in the bulkhead. The boot is commodious but also allows for additional luggage to be strapped to the fold down lid.
The car is finished in masons black over a light gold with the paint in good presentable order. Twin Driving lamps augment the huge P100 Headlamps to the front of the car along with the usual indicator lamps.
This is a Silver Wraith in way above average mechanical condition with a lovely history & is absolutely ready for immediate extended use. You have to ride in it to appreciate just how good it is.
