The Saab 900 is a mid-sized automobile produced by Saab from 1978 until 1998 in two generations. The first generation from 1978 to 1993 is known as the "classic" and the generation from 1994 to 1998 is known as the "new generation".
By 1990 the 900s/ 16 valve Turbo classic was the car of choice for the legion of loyal Saab buyers. The contemporary sales literature states “The Saab is a car you drive, not just ride in” and after a weekend of use Jamie and I have to agree – the 900S Turbo is a superbly engineered car that has been an absolute pleasure to drive.
This is another example of a classic that we did not expect to buy but were simply blown away by the styling, condition and provenance of the car in front of us - sometimes you just have to run with your instinct.
The Saab has covered a warranted 90, 000 miles in the last 30 years and has over 20 stamps in the service book with much of that time spent on the Isle of Man. The body work is exceptionally straight with nice original paint and the blue leather interior with wooden dash, over mats and period Philips’s radio cassette is simply outstanding.
On the road the Saab does not disappoint. The delivers a superbly engaging drive that copes effortlessly with modern traffic conditions. The slight Turbo delay is like stepping back in time and the auto box changes smoothly and the quick down gives useful mid-range acceleration.
The history file includes the leather-bound Saab folder with fully stamped service book, owner’s manual, contemporary sales literature, original dealers licence disc holder, invoices etc.
The 900S could be used as everyday transport or be cosseted and kept as a classic sleeper that, in this condition and with this history, will only go up in value.
