EXTERIOR
Finished in a brilliant coat of Glacier White the R26. R is unmistakable at a glance; with its red vinyl pack, carbon fibre bonnet and rear spoiler making it immediately clear this is no run of the mill family hatchback. Offsetting the brilliant white finish a set of gloss black 18? alloys complete the focused styling of the R26. R, producing more squat, widened stance over the ordinary equivalent.
Overall condition of the car is very good, with nothing more than a handful of light stone chips at the front end of the car. Carbon bonnet is free from any noteworthy signs if the typical heat discolouration whilst the perspex rear windows show clear of any fading or scratches.
INTERIOR
The figure hugging Sabelt seats offer supreme support without compromise, in good condition showing excellent shape and contour they proudly show the R26. R nomenclature stitched into the headrests.
Red stitching pulls the exterior red flashes into the interior with the colour scheme continuing to the race harnesses and huge optional red roll cage which dominates the rear interior space. Creature comforts come in the form of a factory fitted air conditioning system whilst a retrofitted Kenwood headunit with Bluetooth and Navigation bring welcome relief when commuting to and from the track.
This particular model is number 95 of 230 units in the UK as shown by its interior plaque.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Featuring an uprated 2. 0L turbocharged 16 valve, 4 cylinder engine the Megane RS R26. R certainly packs a punch when on the road or track. Acceleration is extremely impressive, with minimal turbo-lag the R26 is propelled from 0-60 in just 5. 9 seconds with a limited-slip differential to a keep everything at the front in check. Fitted with a £2, 250 factory titanium exhaust this example sounds throatier than most, with the optional system also further contributing to the cars impressive 120kg+ weight reduction.
Lightly fettled by specialists RS Tuning this Megane is more potent than most, with a few modifications and a minor re-map increasing power to an impressive 265 bhp.
With a full service history comprising of 9 stamps and the most recent service in February 2021 less than 100 miles ago, the car is in excellent mechanical order.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Setting the purposeful stance of the R26. R a set of 18? gloss black alloys present in excellent condition, free from any signs of curbing, and are wrapped in a matching set of high performance Yokohama Advan Neovas all around.
Brakes show in good order all around, with the factory fitted callipers and new discs at the rear whilst the front end benefits from an upgraded set of Mk3 RS Brembo discs and callipers.
The key to all Renaultsport Megane variants has always been the way they handle, and this model is no exception. Thanks to a limited slip differential the combination of grip, steering feel and balance when cornering is staggering at this price point with the car rightly lauded upon launch.
HISTORY FILE
First registered on 20/ 04/ 2009 this R26. R is 1 of just 230 UK RHD cars produced and boasts a superb spec, finished in Glacier White and fitted with a costly genuine Renault titanium exhaust system (£2, 300). Used sparingly throughout its life this Megane has covered little over 38k miles from new, which is verified by a complete log of MOTs, with the current MOT free valid till March 2022 and from any advisories.
