Description
Here is a very special Audi A2. The Colour Storm, distinguished by its black exterior trim, was a designation introduced in 2003. Very few of these were ever sold in Silver in the UK. It has the more powerful, and relatively rare, 90 bhp TDI engine. The additional torque and taller gearing makes it a much better motorway cruiser than the more common 75 bhp version. This car is probably unique in the UK today.
I bought it in March 2020 and have spent a considerable sum on many replacement parts including timing belt, water pump, auxiliary belt & front lower wishbones. I have invoices for 11 services (mostly independents), however there are gaps in its service history in 2014 and 2018. It has passed its last 2 MOTs with no advisories and does not require another until August 2022. In August 2020 it underwent a major service, and it has just had an oil change service, both at well regarded VAG specialists. Although the mileage is fairly high it has been well cared for, and this model is comfortably capable of exceeding 200, 000 miles.
The original Stereo was replaced by a new Pioneer unit providing Bluetooth, Android Auto, CarPlay & DAB. Besides this the car is very much as per its original spec.
The bodywork has no dents, paintwork is excellent with just a few minor scratches on the main body panels. Being made of aluminium there is no rust. The lower part of the front bumper has some scratches and some evidence of DIY touch-ups. The black on the wheel arches has faded somewhat with age however is easy to restore. Alloys are all excellent besides slight kerbing on the nearside front.
The seats show little wear, carpets and headlining are immaculate. The dash is in very good condition, though there is some wear to the soft touch buttons (as with most A2s). Some of the climate control panel buttons have been replaced with hard touch buttons. The car will be supplied with an absolutely mint replacement panel (soft touch buttons) which the buyer is welcome to fit. The clips holding in the headlight switch have broken.
The engine pulls strongly and cruises smoothly at motorway speeds, brakes are strong and progressive, clutch is light, there are no clonks from suspension or steering. Handling is reassuring, steering light. Air con blows very cold. Gearchange is mostly light and precise, however some changes are occasionally obstructive. This has been investigated by a VAG specialist, who believes the cause to be bent selector cables and that there is no fault with gearbox or clutch.
