Description
This is my 1966 Humber Sceptre Mark II 1725cc in white with tan interior. These superb sports saloons were so typical of The Rootes Group who specialised in creating family cars with sporting pretentions and stunning interiors. Just look at that dashboard!
This old girl has covered just 38, 000 miles and has spent the last 25 years in dry storage. Recently re-commissioned, she had already attended a few classic shows this summer before I acquired her. She appears to be very sound and drives ever so well with an instant overdrive facility on 3rd and 4th. Some areas of paintwork could be improved, most notably the roof where small spots have appeared to reveal primer underneath.
All in all, a model that is rarely offered these days.
Please remember that these classic cars are the equivalent of motoring antiques and cannot, under any circumstances, be compared to your new BMW. Go around them with a fine toothcomb and you will find faults. They all have them unless they are presented as concours! They all need ongoing love and care. They tend to leak oil in varying degrees. They may break down, play up or even present you with a mystery that takes some solving. But that is all part and parcel of classic car ownership. They are there to be loved and cherished like a family pet. They are our motoring heritage and should be treated as such. This old girl for example is now 55-years-old.
