1973 Lotus Elan plus 2 130/ 5
The car has been in our ownership for the last 10 years and as of late has received very little use so is now offered for sale.
The car was subject to a comprehensive body-off restoration by SJ Sportscars amounting to over £9000 in 1999 including a full engine rebuild, a new galvanised chassis and a total strip down and reassembly of all the running gear and suspension. There is a folder of pictures, invoices and letters which explain in detail the work that was carried out. Since the mechanical restoration the car has covered very little mileage and all the components remain in excellent condition.
The Elan is fitted with the big valve 130 horsepower 1600 twin cam engine which keeps good temperature, oil pressure and is free of knocks and rattles. 130 horsepower in a car that weighs sub-900 kilograms makes for a very exciting driving experience indeed!
The car runs, drives, stops and starts but will require a tune, service and check-over before road use. 4 new rotoflex couplings were fitted to the drive shafts last week.
I’ve installed a new headlight vacuum and solenoid which I have yet to connect properly, but the vacuum pulls the lights down as it should when the car is running.
The car is running cosmic wheels with 4 matching good year tyres in good condition.
The body and paint on the car are showing their age but I really love the rough and ready look of it. After all these cars are all about the performance and not shiny paintwork! The car has had a sunroof fitted at some point which functions as it should and doesn’t leak.
The interior is complete and in good condition. All the gauges function as they should, and the dash is in good condition apart from some separation in the veneer. The car comes complete with a brand-new dashboard if you wish to swap it over. The car also comes with a bespoke fitted storage cover.
