EXTERIOR
This desirable 25th Anniversary GTI is finished in glistening Tornado Red. The paintwork is absolutely first-rate throughout and presents with a deep, lustful shine – our studio photographs really don’t do it justice. In fact, when we first saw the car, we were amazed with the condition and still can’t believe it’s actually driven 80k miles. In 2019 it was treated to a £2, 300 cosmetic refresh by the previous owner to include all new door and bumper mouldings. There are almost no stone chips at the front end and it’s arrow-straight along both sides. A truly stunning example in arguably the best colour, and a car we know well having sold it to the current owner.
INTERIOR
The Recaro sports seats are trimmed in black Le Mans cloth with subtle red detailing, a perfect match for the exterior paint scheme. The interior remains feeling really fresh throughout, much more in line with a car having done half the mileage. The upholstery front and rear presents with only the lightest of wear, the deep bolsters remaining in particularly sound condition. Other commonly worn items such as the steering wheel and gearknob show few signs of use, and in the front footwells you’ll find a set of tailored rubber overmats. The special edition plaque in the driver’s door shut shows this example to be number 71 of 1, 800 uniquely number examples.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 1. 8-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 170hp with a maximum torque of 235 Nm from as low as 1, 950 to 5, 000 rpm. Lifting the bonnet reveals a remarkably clean engine bay with absolutely no signs of any damage or poor repair. The car is accompanied by a fantastic maintenance record which, apart from one service done in 2020, is entirely VW main dealer. The most recent service was carried out in July 2021 by Vertu Volkswagen Huddersfield at 80, 717 miles.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The 18-inch BBS alloys really set the 25th Anniversary off beautifully, looking exceptional in the correct polished finish with absolutely no curb marking to speak of. The brake calipers also present well in their original red paint. New Michelin tyres were fitted at the rear in August 2020 and the fronts still have plenty of tread remaining.
HISTORY FILE
This stunning Mk4 Golf GTI was first registered in September 2002. It was supplied to its first owner by Advent VW in Manchester and has seen just 4 additional keepers since then. The accompanying History File is packed full of invoices – including the original bill of sale – along with plenty of past MOT certificates, all owners’ manuals, and the original service schedule, which is fully stamped at the following mileages: 9, 931 – 19, 784 – 29, 902 – 37, 827 – 46, 191 – 56, 191 – 60, 740 – 68, 131 – 75, 732 – 77, 524 – 80, 121 – and most recently at 80, 717 miles in July 2021. The service history is all-VW apart from one service in 2020 that was carried out independently.
