This beautiful 1958 Lancia Aurelia GT Coupé seems to have invented the expression 'art on wheels'! For more than half a century, the beautiful Italian, designed by respected top designer Vittorio Jano, has been able to please the street scene with a rich dose of aesthetics and charisma.
Only 621 of this last 6th series were produced between 1957 and 1958. Of these, 425 have left the factory as LHD.
This Lancia Aurelia Coupé was completely 'bare metal and nuts' restored in 2016 by restorer Eckerfeld from Berlin. This way we know that the car has been handled by an absolute expert. The specialist returned the illustrious Lancia in perfect condition. Many issues have been addressed, including the complete stripping of the bodywork. The sills, floor and rear wheel arches have been renewed. In addition, the leaf springs at the rear have been renewed. The exhaust and manifold are also completely new.
After this top restoration, it goes without saying that the paint and bodywork are in great condition. The fits of the sills, fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid are perfect.
The beautiful silver-green body paint is a feast for the eyes, but the Aurelia also knows how to win many a car's heart on the inside. Note, for example, the beautiful two-tone interior trim, the characteristic wooden 3-spoke steering wheel, and the stylish dashboard with 2 graceful recessed ashtrays.
The elegant appearance of the Aurelia has undoubtedly contributed to the fact that the model is becoming 'the classic of Lancia'. But the smooth 6-cylinder power source and surprisingly good road holding of the GT also know better than anyone to let the 'benzina' flow faster through our veins. A charmer with substance! In fact, the 2, 451 cc V6 engine (the largest in the Aurelia series) in combination with a—for the time—progressive suspension and weight distribution, make the chic Lancia a pleasure to drive.
It is therefore not entirely surprising that the first series of the Aurelia GT ever won the famous Mille Miglia in its class. And even today, this work of art on wheels is still a welcome guest during – as well as a popular object for participation in classic rallies.
