For sale we have my July 2006 E85 BMW Z4M roadster fitted with the renowned BMW s54 M-power straight 6 with 334bhp and the last hurrah for the N/ A 6 cylinder.
I would suggest they are the last analogue M car being devoid of electronics beyond DSC (which can be switched off) and ABS but also fitted with an LSD M-differential.
I purchased this particular car on the 9th September 2016 with 62, 200 miles as I wanted to experience the Z4M for an extended period.
As the 4th Owner I have increased the mileage to 74, 700 or thereabouts (I’m still using it) and so after almost exactly 5 years I feel it is time for a change as I now need the practicality 4 seats brings.
The car has an MOT with no advisories until 29th March 2022 and there are no outstanding recalls.
The car was HPI’d checked when purchased (available) and came up clean bar the expected private plate changes and has remained so.
The car is finished in Monaco blue with light Sepang bronze nappa leather interior.
I believe it is only of 7 finished in Monaco blue which suits it very well being perhaps more subtle that other available colours.
The first owner specified brushed aluminium interior strips over the usual black, which further lightens the interior.
The car was well specified when new featuring the professional navigation system, HiFi 10 loudspeaker system, PDC & Xenon headlights as well as the usual Z4M refinements.
In addition I have added a Gap-tech ‘one touch’ roof module which now allows the roof to be raised and lowered off the key, with one touch of the buttons as the name suggests, but also at low speed (handy in traffic).
A Bluetooth aux-in has been added for wireless music streaming / DAB from your phone.
It was supplied to me with a comprehensive service history and original service books, leather folder etc to which I have continued to maintain the car in a diligent manor collating all work and bills in an A4 ring binder.
It had the oft mentioned running in service by Synter Tamworth and in my ownership is always run with Shell V-Power
Most recently the car has been to M and BMW specialist Phil Crouch in Amersham (CPC Performance Engineering Ltd) for the valve clearances to be checked and a slight diff input seal weep to be corrected all with genuine BMW parts and fluids.
Mechanically I believe the car wants for nothing. Works in my ownership briefly comprise the following, all backed up with receipts and details of work carried out:
Engine:
Full service with Castrol Edge Supercar 10w60 including all filters, spark plugs, throttle potentiometers, valve clearances and Vanos filters @ 70, 468 miles
Transmission:
CDV delete, gearbox oil replaced with AMS oil “synthetic manual synchromesh transmission fluid” (great improvement on shift quality) @ 74, 480 miles, differential oil replaced with Genuine BMW Motorsport rear differential fluid (SAF-XJ+FM) @ 74, 689 miles and a weighted BMW e46club sport gear knob fitted.
Brakes:
One caliper replaced but otherwise in rude health with negligible lip on the discs & plenty of pad depth left.
Wheels & tyres:
Michelin PS4 tyres are fitted front and rear of the correct size and have good tread.
Wheels themselves are generally very good though they do have some minor kerb rash. Recently the wheel centres were renewed with genuine BMW parts and all /// M badges are present and correct.
Suspension:
H&R springs where fitted to give a more compliant ride (originals available), Meyle HD wishbones with genuine BMW lollipop bushes were installed @ 72, 223 miles, genuine BMW top mounts, new drop links and new rear trailing arm bushes with Turner RTAB limiter plates @ 72, 269 miles and finally new ARB bushes @ 72, 300 miles finishing up with a full Hunter weighted 4-wheel alignment thereafter with printouts.
Interior:
The air conditioning blows ice cold, the navigation screen was replaced to repair a failed LCD and works without fault, various trim items have been renewed with all with genuine parts. A Bluetooth Aux-in has been fitted too.
The seats have been cleaned and treated with Gliptone products and present very well but for a very small hole in the drivers bolster. The heated seat switches were replaced and both seats work. The car benefits from recent genuine mats and comes with two keys.
The original tool kit is complete, torch albeit flat is in the glove box, Mobility tyre seal and compressor are present and correct.
A new Varta battery was fitted in October last year
Body:
In the last month the front bumper was re-sprayed to remove some minor stone chips and a couple of parking scuff but otherwise undamaged. Additionally I have fitted new 3rd brake light fitted and stubby aerial to allow a cover to be fitted.
There are maybe 2 or 3 very minor marks a PDR specialist would easily resolve but one has to look very closely.
The hood works perfectly and has been cleaned and treated with Renovo convertible fabric soft top cleaner & proofer
Summary:
Whilst the Z4M is an affordable performance car (and the performance is epic) the running costs can still surprise and as such I believe that this example is worth the extra initial outlay for the future peace of mind it will bring.
It is an honest, well-maintained example of Z4M roadster in excellent if not mint condition (its 15 years old after all) but has been well cared for and any possible problems attended to which should offer the new owner peace of mind and a trouble free ownership experience.
Why am I selling?
I am an enthusiast and part of the fun for me is learning about my cars, fettling them and keeping them in good order. I’ve had my ‘fun’ with this one and whilst I would love to keep it I need 4 seats if I’m honest.
I will regret selling I’m sure, especially now I’ve put down all I’ve done in words and dare I suggest these will not get any cheaper but onwards and upwards!
