We are delighted to present for sale this 1976 Land Rover® Lightweight, presented in original military specification.
Externally, there are lots of period military features – front lifting eyes, front and rear bumperettes, bonnet mounted spare, whip aerial with ATU on the wing, NATO hitches front and rear, front bridging plate and recent canvas. Vintage numberplates complete the look – and we think that the culmination of all the above gives a really handsome looking, period lightweight Land Rover®.
The interior is largely standard, with three front deluxe seats, and matting to the footwells. A seat belt bar has been fitted for over the shoulder belts, which is a nice touch. The heater is still fitted, with front demist, which is handy for the upcoming colder months of the year. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a load mat and additional soundproofing, but could house bench seats on request for £395 to bring seating to seven.
Out on the road, this lightweight delivers a pleasing period drive – the drum of those military tyres on the black stuff is infectious, and the petrol engine is a joy. It stops as it should too. On our test drives, we enjoyed several admiring glances, waves and smiles – it really does brighten the mood whenever it goes.
In summary, if you are looking for a period lightweight that benefits from MOT & Tax Exemption, along with classic insurance, then this could be for you. ‘Good’ lightweights are becoming increasingly more difficult to find – particularly ones with so many of the period features. We don’t envisage having this in stock for long!
