Description

THIS is a mega rare Mark 1 Austin A40 Farina, but it is the countryman version. Now widely regarded as the UK's first ever hatchback - even before the term was coined in motoring circles!

All Countryman models are considered to be rare and highly desirable these days, but especially the Mark 1.

I quote from Classic Car Weekly, dated just a couple of months ago on October 6: "The survival rate is poor especially for the Mark 1 versions. The Countryman is more valuable than the standard saloon, with the hatchback/ estate version being worth about half as much again in the same condition. Roadworthy Mark 1 Countrymans are worth between 4k and 8k while Mark 2s slot in at 3-6k. These values have not changed much over the past five years and these cars seem largely immune from the medium term fluctuations in the market!"

This fine example has been re-commissioned this year by a retired engineer and she is ready to roll. Some of the work done is as follows: replacement dynamo, all brake seals replaced, front brake shoes replaced, king pin bushes renewed, lower trunnion pins renewed, new suspension upper bushes, new front bump stops, new steering rods, new gearbox tailshaft seal, new fuel pipe front to rear, new fuel pump, timing chain and front seal renewed, new front crossmember, new clutch slave cylinder repair kit etc.

He reported that the car had been previously restored and that all wings are steel - a major plus on a BMC model such as this!

She is a really bonny little thing with an exceptionally pleasant interior too. Some of her paintwork displays areas where the colour match is not quite spot on but I am being picky. The shell is in great order to be fair!

A nice perky little driver with the correct 948cc engine.

An exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire an ultra rare Mark 1 Countryman. Very fairly priced and ready to enjoy.

The classic cars I sell are motoring antiques. There may be a few dozen left of any one model, maybe more and maybe less. Most of them had lives that lasted anywhere between three and seven years (on average). Today's classics are all rare. They have survived. Please do not come and look at one of my cars from the 30s, 40s or 50s and point out some blemishes. Do the maths and work out their ages. If these ancient motor cars are not your cup of tea then please don't make an appointment and come and insult them. Buy a three-year-old BMW if that is your thing. Some are restored to a huge degree; some have never been touched and remain original with warts and all. No two will ever be the same. They are not in a showroom "bulled up" for your perusal. I pride myself on being able to find different and interesting - to me at any rate - classic cars and then finding new homes for them. Understand that and we shall all get on very well indeed. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Many thanks. Martin. the details below).
