Tidy example of a classic coupe which came as standard with the Ford flathead V8 so beloved of hot rodders in the period, rather than the sidevalve six fitted to most of its competitors. That gives it a surprising turn of speed. It’s fitted with a 12 volt conversion and electronic ignition - and the obvious benefit of electric windscreen wipers and washers – plus there’s a set of four telescopic dampers in place of the lever arms. This car has recently undergone a huge amount of work to make it regularly usable; brakes have been completely overhauled, new front spring, new clutch, gearbox overhaul with new synchros, new radiator core, new rear tyres and a host of minor items which took several months to accomplish. Chassis is completely sound, wings are rust free, as is the floor, and the recent work included a new boot floor which was done correctly with the proper ribbing, rather than a flat plate slapped in. The rest is pretty good but not perfect - the interior could either do with a bit of improvement, or it’s slightly scruffy and nicely aged. It’s an individual choice but the car is all very presentable and draws attention wherever you go and is completely usable on a regular basis. It starts immediately, doesn’t smoke, and it sounds great. There aren’t many of these in the UK and this one needs no more work before you can use and enjoy.
