We are delighted to present for sale this well appointed Austin® Champ, which we recently purchased from an Austin® Champ Owners Club member. This Champ has quite an illustrious history, having served in the Suez Canal, Cyprus, Korea and Germany.
Due to the aforementioned previous keeper, this Austin has all the features one would hope to see – a brand new set of 750 military tyres, whip aerials, ATU’s, rear spare, Jerry Can, Pioneer Tools (often missing), Bridging Plate, Front Towropes, NATO hitch and Spotlight. In our opinion, we think it looks fantastic.
The interior has the same, standard feel – two front seats, along with slatted wooden floor mats, and the rear seats are still fitted too. There is a handy lockbox in the rear for stowing items of value. It is great to see. This champ also comes with the side screens and doors, which we have never seen before, and is fantastic to see.
This champ has a very ‘sorted’ feel when out on the road – the comparable Land Rover® of the time is rudimentary in comparison – not only can these go as fast forward as they can backwards, but they also have fully independent suspension and so the ride is far superior too – you can really ‘attack’ a speed hump without joggling yourself to bits. Similarly, the Rolls Royce engine is an absolute joy to drive, and it sounds great – like Britain in the Wartime! It has a large history file of receipts (most of which are from the nation’s leading ‘Champ Tech Guru’, David Lock), old MOT’s, associated Champ manuals and magazines, and some military history. It is evident from this it has been well cared for.
In summary, this is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a very original and well-equipped Champ. We do not envisage, for those reasons, it being around for long.
