EXTERIOR
Presented in Tornado Red the wide, boxy shape of the Audi Quattro is a clear cut icon of the 80s, with fire breathing group B monsters dominating the world rally scene whilst road going examples set a new president in the performance car world.
Showing with vibrance, the Tornado Red paintwork suits the shape of the car exceptionally well, with nothing more than some lightly touched in stonechips to note at the front end and a small mark in the lacquer on the scuttle panel. Black pinstripes contrast the paintwork running along both sides of car, whilst the famous four ring graphics sit at the bottom of the doors as a great retro detail, fading from dark black into the tornado paintwork.
Rounding off the race inspired feel the real spoiler of the Quattro is subtle but precise, perfectly fitting the deeply sloped rear bootlid and framing the large rear light/ reflector section which show free from any signs of fading or cracks.
INTERIOR
Featuring a full digital dashboard, 3-spoke non airbag steering wheel and unique Quattro printed fabric seat inserts the interior of the Audi is a real blast from the past. Built with the usual level of German quality and precision it’s not surprising the interior remains in highly original condition, showing minimal signs of wear after some careful detailing. Leather bolsters of the shaped sports seats sit free from the usual fading whilst the carpets still look fresh, showing with no stains damage.
Luxuriously appointed for a rally car the leather upholstery spans the door arm rests, glove box, centre console, door pockets and leather wrapped centre console. Further luxuries come in the form of a sunroof, electric windows and an extremely rare factory fitted air conditioning system. Making sure passengers get to make the most use and retro appeal of the original Audi Gamma FM Radio and cassette player the car will be provided with 2 large cases containing 150+ period tapes collected by the current owner over the years which can be seen in the interior photos.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Early adopters of turbocharging engine for performance purposes Audi have built a reputation for producing some of the best forced induction engines in the business, and the 5-cylinder engine fitted to the Quattro is the genesis of it all. Starting at 2, 144 cc the 5-cylinder engine was developed into a 2, 226cc DOHC 20V by the end of the cars production run, made for just a 2 year period in the last of the Quattros dubbed the RR. Benefitting from the extra capacity and DOHC design the RR saw an increased output of 220 bhp, meaning 0-60 mph was dispatched in just 6. 5 seconds before going onto a top speed of 143 mph.
Meticulously maintained by each of its owners the mechanical condition of this car is superb, with 2 huge folders of invoices and 22 stamps in the original service book confirming no expense has been spared in the cars 30+ years on the road.
Believed to be an entirely stock example the only modification to note is a Milltek cat-back exhaust system in place of the original.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Completing the classic style of the Quattro the original 15? Ronal Alloys present in excellent condition, free from any curbing or scuffs. Tyres are a matching set of Dunlop Sport tyres with good tread remaining at each corner. A full spare set of Ronal winter wheel and tyres is also included in the sale, pictured in the wheels section.
Brakes appear to be in excellent order, with no signs of lipping or corrosion they do an excellent job of working with the grippy Quattro system to bring the Audi to a stop.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on 21/ 05/ 90 by Massingberd Audi, this incredible Audi Quattro 20V RR is thought to be 1 of just 295 RHD cars supplied to the UK and comes with an extremely rare factory fitted air conditioning system. Clearly a cherished car servicing has been carried out regularly as it covers the mileage, with 22 stamps in the original service book along side 2 binders of MOTS, ownership documents and thousands of pounds worth of invoices dating back to the 1990 when the car was purchased.
Remaining with the current owner for the past 11 years the car has been kept largely in storage, covering less than 1k miles in his ownership as outlined by a series of service invoices and MOTs. Last serviced on 08/ 09/ 2014 at 101, 076 miles the car is due a service and cambelt change on a time basis rather than mileage, which will be completed upon sale at the asking price.
Present with the car is the complete original book pack, stamped service books, V5 2 keys and a selection of spare parts, tools, literature, wheels and other extras collected by the owner worth around £3k.
