1931 Austin 7 SWB van project
I have been collecting parts for this over the past few years but just don’t have the time to finish it off with other projects I have going on.
Built on a March/ April 1931 SWB chassis. The chassis is complete as shown in the photos with the chassis number clearly shown. The chassis was previously registered with the registration number 301 OFF and was a racing special with the 750mc. A previous owner has put that number plate on another vehicle. The rolling chassis is complete apart from one brake drum and the nut for retaining the axle driveshaft. It has been assembled for the photos having been in storage but will need checking through. The chassis is in great condition having been painted and all wheels turning freely and the diff working as should.
New Aluminium van body with new floor built to a very high standard by Roach manufacturing to the correct early A7 van plans. A few scratch marks on left hand side from storage as shown in pictures but otherwise in great as new condition.
The project comes with an early magneto engine put on the chassis to aid pictures. I have removed the head and it turns over freely but have not had time to try to run it. The engine is complete with a magneto and strap. Also included are two correct 3 speed gearboxes, gearbox top and selector and centre prop shaft.
Other items included which are shown in the pictures;
• Correct short chummy style steel radiator cowling
• Correct short radiator that has been overhauled and recored and not used yet
• Correct fuel tank which has been Chemically dipped, sealed inside and painted outside
• Cow horns pair
• Starter motor and housing
• Period lamps to mount on the scuttle
• Inlet Manifold
• Fan
• clutch pedal
• Running boards
• Flitch plates
• Carburettor plus spare brass body
• Steering box, wheel and handbrake lever, removed to show body on chassis
• Brass Lucus ignition panel
• Smiths Speedo
• Oil pressure gauge
• Period wind up clock.
There is no V5 with the van however the chassis number is clearly visible. The vehicle presented as a complete van to one of the Austin 7 clubs should be able to assist with raising a number with the DVLA
This represents a fantastic opportunity for someone to finish this great project off to a high standard and have it painted in their desired colour scheme. It could be finished in time for the Austin 7 Centenary Celebrations this year or would be perfect to promote a business at shows etc with it not taking up much space. Good examples of early vans have sold in excess of £25k so gives the new owners plenty of room to invest to finish this off.
