Description

This car has been "rescued" by myself as a project. The mechanics and running gear were always good but the bodywork was poor. The story I got was that it was a farmer' s car from Bodmin Moor and all the paperwork was lost when he died. Over the period of about a year I replaced the following: floor sections, o/ s outrigger, o/ s front door pillar, top section of bulkhead, rear section below the tailgate which was removed, welded and sealed, both inner and our rear wheel arches.
The car is now 100% watertight (no more soggy carpets)!
She also has new rear shocks, pads, steering rack boots, front o/ s brake hose and a new master cylinder.
This model is a four speed, carburettor model. She starts and drives faultlessly. The battery is good as are the tyres.
This is not a concourse car, but is a solid, honest 240. I am just hobby mechanic but have found working on her a real pleasure. Everything is so well made and engineered. There is plenty of space to get to things and parts are easily available. There are a few jobs to finish off. The heated rear window needs the wires re-attached (which I cut when the tailgate was removed). Also when the headlights are on full beam and the brake is depressed the rear lights go out causing the bulb warning light to come on on the dash. It got through the MOT but it needs looking at I just haven't had the time.
Everyone says the car looks like new, but I always say "don't look too close"! The rear n/ s wheel arch needs some fine filler and more paint and there are some areas of primer that need top coat. The drivers seat is a bit worn and saggy but easily fixable. I drive her with a wooden beaded seat cover and a cushion - very 80's! One of my daughters wanted to have it and use it for camping! Although it is no camper van, it does sleep two off the ground, dry and very comfortable. With a roof rack and an awning it would be great. Unfortunately if you know these cars they are a little bit thirsty on fuel, especially around town (pretty good on a long run and comparable with modern cars of similar size). The road tax is £240 for a year.
Any questions give me a ring. I am only selling her because with two grown up children parking spaces are at a premium. I am not desperate to sell and would take sensible offers, but nothing stupid please. I have put many hours into this car and would like to see her go to a good home to keep her on the road. Someone said the number plate may be worth a few quid but I have never looked into it.
There is no service history with the car, something that would normally put me off but my gut feeling is that the car was serviced regularly (the oil was clean when I bought her), and she drives so well, the body was just neglected. There is an original 1980's owners book though. I do have plenty of receipts for the work I have done.
Thanks for looking.
