Externally, in our opinion, we think this Series 3 really stands well – the bodywork is of a spray type finish, which is good to see and not always the case at this price point. There are lots of period features, such as the bonnet mounted spare and rear grabhandles and mudflaps. These are done with other, more modern features – the larger 750 tyres to increase gearing, the free wheeling hubs to aid economy, the alpine lights for the roof to give more light in the rear and the larger defender style door mirrors for extra visibility when driving. The culmination of these features provides a vehicle which looks of the period – but without some of the drawbacks associated with it.
On the inside, there is a recent set of standard front seats, along with deluxe matting to the footwells, and door cards to the lower doors which gives a more premium feel. The rear is fitted with twin bench seats, again a recent addition, with a load mat to the floor to protect against scratches and damage. There is also a deluxe door card to the rear door, which is a nice touch. This means that this Series 3 Land Rover® can seat seven including the driver, meaning it can take the whole family out if so desired – a set of rear windows can be fitted on request for £795 to give the full ‘station wagon’ feel if so desired.
Out on the road, this old girl drives just as she should. The petrol engine is quiet and runs sweetly, and it stops just as it should. The larger tyres make cruising a less strained experience, whilst the free wheeling hubs aid economy and limit axle wear.
In summary, if you are looking for a Series 3 Land Rover® which can carry the whole family in vintage style, then this could be for you. With the rare and (we think!) attractive colour combination as well as upcoming MOT & Tax Exemption along with Classic Insurance, then this could prove to be cost-effective to own in the longer term as well as turning heads when you are out on the tarmac.
