This 1, 990cc BMW inline-four is said to have been built for racing by UK specialist Lester Owen under previous ownership, and was acquired by the seller in 2017 for installation in his Chevron B16 race car. Modifications reportedly include high-compression pistons, Arrow connecting rods, forged steel rockers, dry-sump lubrication, electronic ignition, and a stainless steel exhaust header in addition to a lightweight clutch and flywheel. Induction is from dual 45 DCOE Weber carburetors that have been modified with 47mm bores. The engine is said to have approximately 13 hours of run time since being overhauled by Marcovicci-Wenz Engineering of Ronkonkoma, New York in January 2019. This race-prepped BMW M10 is offered in Massachusetts with a starter, a billet gearbox adapter plate, ITG air filters, and a 2019 dyno sheet.

The M10 inline-four was designed in the late 1950s by Alex von Falkenhausen for BMW, and utilized a cast iron block topped with a SOHC aluminum cylinder head. This example was reportedly configured for competition use by LH Owen in the UK under previous ownership, and displaces 1, 990cc with an 89mm bore and 80mm stroke according to the seller. The engine is said to feature a 12. 88:1 compression ratio, forged aluminum pistons, Arrow connecting rods, and forged steel rockers.

The engine was used in the seller’s Chevron B16 race car and is set up for dry-sump lubrication using a Pace three-stage oil pump and an LH Owen sump. Additional equipment includes an alternator, a starter, a multi-disc AP Racing clutch, and a billet aluminum bell housing adapter reportedly designed to mount to a Hewland gearbox.

Induction is via twin Weber 45 DCOE carburetors that have been modified with 47mm bores and are fitted with foam ITG air cleaners. Other ancillaries include an LH Owen-branded valve cover, a Lucas distributor with a Hall-effect trigger, a Lumenition ignition module, an MSD Blaster coil, an Armtech rev limiter, and a stainless steel exhaust header.

Various components are stamped with number 104, which is said to be an identification number added by LH Owen during the initial build.
A January 2019 dyno sheet from Marcovicci-Wenz Engineering of Ronkonkoma, New York indicates peak output of 234 horsepower at 8, 000 rpm.
The engine is said to have accumulated approximately 13 hours of runtime since the 2019 overhaul.
