Designed as a joint venture between Audi and Porsche and built on Audi’s 80 Avant chassis and 2, 2l petrol 5 cylinder engine. It was Audi’s first “RS” vehicle, and the first of their high-performance Avants (Audi’s name for an estate car); it used the most powerful and most thoroughly developed version of Audi’s inline-five cylinder turbocharged internal combustion engine. The RS2 was locally dubbed the ‘cannon ball Audi’ in a popular motor car magazine.
With so much power available, the RS 2 could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/ h (62 mph) in 4. 8 seconds, and achieve a maximum speed of 262 km/ h (163 mph) (electronically restricted), despite weighing over 1, 600 kg (3, 500 lb). In a road test conducted in 1995, British car magazine Autocar timed the RS 2 from 0 to 30 mph (48 km/ h) at just 1. 5 seconds, which they confirmed was faster than the McLaren F1 road car.
This particular RS2 is the original designated "Nogaro Blue" colour, and it is an example of the RHD (of which only 180 were produced) out of a total of around 2891 RHD and LHD produced.
I have recently (about a month ago) had the vehicle thoroughly inspected, and the entire water system (piping and water pump) had been replaced, a mechanical service, all brake calipers has been serviced as well as new competition brake pads. The vehicle is entirely original, however the air filter and has been upgraded and also an upgraded electronic boost controller.
