Thanks for taking a look at the advert for my Honda S2000 GT. I spent quite a while searching for a good condition, original S2000 and was really happy when I found this one with basically the perfect specification. Unfortunately, I need to consolidate my car collection due to starting a home extension and needing the space. Here’s a quick summary, but I’ve also written a detailed description below. However, if there’s anything I’ve missed or if you want any further information or photos, please just ask.
Good Bits:
-Late model, low mileage, original example with good service history
-Tastefully modified, but all OEM components will come with the car
-Zero rust on sills or wheel arches (there aren’t many which can honestly say that!)
-Bodywork & paint generally really good
-Best spec (“AP2” model, GT spec, LSD, higher red line, but before the increased road tax)
-Undersealed really well by previous owner
-Ceramic coated at the end of summer, still beading really well
-Everything works as it should
-Really tight, genuinely drives like a new car
-2 keys, full service pack, V5 present and in my name, HPI clear
Bad Bits (at least things which I haven’t got around to yet):
-Some stone chips on the front of the car and very minor dings on a few panels
-Wheels are presentable, but could do with a light refurb
-Slight rattle occasionally from an exhaust heat shield
Detailed Descriptions:
Bodywork: Generally in very good condition, towards the end of last summer, the car was thoroughly detailed, machine polished and ceramic coated – it still beads really well (I’ve kept on top of it and have used a ceramic maintenance spray each time it’s been cleaned) and has a nice deep lustre. There are some stonechips to the front of the car, which are commensurate with the age/ mileage – but something I would look to address within the next few years if I were keeping it. The headlights were restored and UV protected at the same time it was detailed, so they look great. There are a few other very light scratches on the car and very minor dings – however, hopefully the photos are clear enough to show how straight it is. The rear arches and sills are original and in perfect condition. Most S2000’s by now have been repaired and it’s difficult to be certain how well this has been done. One of my main criteria when buying an S2000 was good condition original sills and arches. The previous owner has thoroughly undersealed the car (he had access to a ramp) using Bilt Hamber products, so the body should remain in fantastic rust free condition for years to come.
Roof: The roof was replaced in 2012 by a specialist using an OEM mohair item, it fits really well and is still nice and taught. There are no leaks and no nicks/ tears in the fabric. It has a glass heated rear window and operates exactly as it should. With the car being a GT model, it comes with a factory hardtop which is very sought after; these alone sell for £2-3k. The hardtop is clean and in good condition, rear window heater works, it seals really well and is easy to change. It comes with a hardtop stand too, which I couldn’t be without.
Interior: The car comes with an OEM mat set and the sought after two-tone GT interior. It’s all in really good condition with exceptionally few rattles/ creaks (even for a Honda!). Everything works as it should. The only sign of wear is on the drivers’ seat squab, which is shown in the photos. This could be re-coloured quite easily, but is far from wearing through. I’ve had the seats out and shampooed/ wet-vac’d the carpets, so it smells fresh and is thoroughly clean. There is an aftermarket head unit in the car, but it works on the drivers’ cockpit controls as per the original.
Mechanics: The car has recently had a full service (engine oil & filter, air filter clean & re-oil, spark plugs, gearbox oil, diff oil) using premium parts. I’ve done this myself because I’m particular about people working on my cars and prefer to do whatever I can – all receipts are available. For the MOT back in December, the car had fresh brake pads all round and a new rear caliper. There are no knocks, creaks or bangs from the chassis and it still feels really tight and nimble. The engine idles smoothly, runs quietly with no smoke and hits the 9k RPM redline as it should, with that addictive VTEC thump. It uses a very small amount of oil (about 50ml per 1000 miles), which is well within spec. The gearbox feels fantastic, really precise and with a nice short throw and it’s coupled to a replacement OEM clutch which was replaced around 5000 miles ago. The LSD locks up as it should and both it and the gearbox have had fresh oil earlier this month. There is a good quality, S2000 specific, K&N Typhoon induction kit, it sounds good and I cleaned/ re-oiled in earlier this month using a K&N service kit – the original airbox/ filter is included. It also has a nice Tegiwa 4-branch exhaust manifold fitted (original included) and a Tegiwa de-cat mid-pipe (not currently fitted). Rear tyres match and front tyres match, but there was an advisory on the most recent MOT for one of the front tyres.
