1977 reasonably original and in nice unrestored condition.
It has a full stainless exhaust and lower bars that are not original, but improve the bike for daily use.
This bike has been in the UK all of it’s life and is not a US spec bike imported to the UK.
Registered as a historic vehicle so it’s MOT and road tax exempt.
I have owned it for 6 years and I will be sad to see it go.
I never have time to take it for a decent run and all the sitting about is not doing it any good so it’s time to let it go to someone with the time to enjoy it.
The carburettors will need cleaning out as they have gummed up a bit from standing. It starts and runs, I have just been for a ride on it before taking these pictures. BUT there is a flat spot at about 3000 rpm and it takes a very long time to warm up and hold a tickover, the carbs need a good clean. I have a spare set of carbs that come with the bike. My intention had been to strip and clean the spare set, then swap them, then strip and clean the original set. I have never got round to it.
The rear brake caliper is also a little sticky, it binds sometimes, but not every time. Again this is due to standing around unused for too long.
The battery is past its best now but I have ordered a new one and will fit it as soon as it arrives.
There are a few other bits with it that have been collected over the years just in case they come in handy. There’s a starter motor, some points and point plate, filter, a few gaskets, some used coils and few other bits and bobs. As well as a big comfy seat if you were ever to go touring.
1977 was the last year Honda used the original spoked wheels on the Goldwing. From 1978 the bikes got bulkier and heavier eventually leading to the small camper van on wheels that they have become today.
I have no way of proving the mileage is accurate at just over 20k miles but looking at the old MOTs and the small box file of service history that comes with the bike I can not find any reason to disbelieve it.
It has not been restored (which to my mind is a good thing) and it has not been bodged. It has just grown old and a bit sulky, probably feeling a little neglected and sad due entirely to me just never having the time to give it the love and attention it deserves. If you have the time, please give it a good and caring home so it can live out its retirement pounding the tarmac and taking in the views as it did as a youth.
You probably could ride it home, as I say I have ridden it today, but the flat spot and unreliable tick over along with the slightly binding rear brake suggests it would be kinder to take it home in a van, give it a good looking at with some spanners and then enjoy it as it should be.
I do own a motorcycle business, but please note this bike is part of my personal collection and I have the V5C in my name. You will need to pay me, not my business.
