Reluctant sale of rare & very good condition Opel Ascona 1. 6 DL
First registered in August 1980 in the eye catching colour of Turquoise
The car is in fantastic time warp condition for it's 42 year age & comes with an extensive history file including it's original bill of sale.
The car was bought by a chap from Basingstoke from the local Opel dealer & he owned the car for the next 25 years.
It then changed hands a couple of times to Opel enthusiasts before ending up in Cornwall in 2006 having been bought by another Opel/ Vauxhall enthusiast.
The car at that stage had done 55000 miles & was in amazing condition for what was a 26 year old car.
The guy who is a friend of mine in the Opel Manta Club then took the car to show standard condition (photo file in history to show work carried out)
He sold the car to me in 2013 & i have maintained & taken the car to meets & shows during the last 9 years.
The car has had the following modifications carried out since 2006.
Manta GTE springs fitted to give a slightly lower look
4 speed gearbox replaced with a later 5 speed box from an Opel Manta GTE to give better motorway cruising.
Webber carb conversion but retaining the original air filter box.
ATS classic wheels fitted to replace the Rostyle wheels, the ATS classics were an option at the time so are period correct.
Irmscher rear exhaust box fitted
The car is now registered wth the DVLA as an historic vehicle so is tax & mot exempt.
Car was last on the road in 2019 where it was displayed at the NEC classic car show.
Last MOT was carried out on 7th June 2019 at a mileage of 61570
Current mileage is 62365
If the new owner wants i can put an MOT on it for confidence.
Is the car concors ?
No, it is very good condition & a potential show winner but it is not perfect as there are a few very small blemishes on the paint work.
There is a slight noise from the gearbox when idling which is believed to be some minor wear in the input shaft bearing.
A bit about myself, i am the South Wales & West country area rep for the Opel Manta owners club so am a genuine enthusiast.
Why am i selling the car ?
I have two other classics & need to free up some space in my garage.
It is one of the best surviving Opel Ascona B models in the UK imho, i don't think you would ever find another up for sale in such good condition.
I welcome any questions or viewings.
