We are delighted to present for sale this rare to find Series 3 109, in County Station Wagon Trim. These are becoming rare to find now, particularly one in such complete condition.
Externally, there are lots of period features – the recent galvanised front bumper, the vintage numberplates, the bonnet mounted spare and the rear spare (which gives you two spare tyres for endurance without worrying about punctures), the rear grabhandles, safari roof and alpine lights and the larger defender-style door mirrors to aid visibility when reversing or out on the road. All 4 side doors have side steps to aid access, too. The culmination of all these items makes for, in our opinion, a vehicle which looks just as it should, with some handy modern additions.
This theme continues on the inside – there are 2 front highback seats, with central cubby box and cupholders in the front, with a trio of three seats in the middle row, with two forward facing rear seats, which are very rare to see. There is a dog guard fitted too, which is handy for those with pets to look after! What is great about this Series 3 109 is the amount of the soft trim that survives, which is often missing – even the doors have full cards with arm rests, and the sun visors and headline still survive in good condition too – and all the soft trim surrounding the windows and alpine lights is also present, which is particularly uncommon to see. In the front, there is a period stereo which works, and a map light for the passenger. There are some working auxiliary dials – one as a clock, one as a metric of fuel consumption, and one for the oil temperature.
Out on the road, this Series 3 109 drives just as it should – it rides well even on the standard spring set up, and the engine is a sweet unit too. Due to the fact all the soft trim survives, this is one of the quietest and smoothest Series Land Rovers we’ve had in recent times.
