It is with a deep sadness that I am forced to be listing my 1997 Mazda MX5 MK1 Harvard up for sale. I bought the car with intentions to keep it through summer but I have since learned that I cannot park on my university campus and so I have no other option but to list it for sale. I have exhausted every other option but even if kept at home, I wouldn’t be using it.
This car is an absolutely stunning and rare to come by example, it has had so much time, care, money and love poured into it and needs nothing. It has been in the same family for around 12 years and has had no expense spared, was owned by a 70 year old man previously. The history and paperwork with the car is massive, it has service history up until very recently including oil changes etc, all receipts for work mentioned are present.
The car sits at a very low 61, 000 miles (will rise slightly as in daily use), the car has had a new low mileage engine professionally fitted due to previous oil pump failure, this has been supplied and done by an MX5 and Mazda approved Specialist in Kent with all paperwork present. The engine is a 1. 8 and pulls very well and is very healthy, has had a lot of care. As well as this, common consumables that need to be changed at around 60, 000 miles have also been done, the cambelt and water pump has been sorted.
In terms of mods for the car, it has had a chunk of money thrown at it to get it to where it is. Only the best premium parts have been bought and used, there has not been an expense spared. The car was built to keep. The mod list is;

The bodywork of the car is one of the main features, the car has had a full professional respray in a MX5 ND colour, Polymetal grey. The car is immaculate and shines like a mirror, I’m not sure if there are any other MK1’s painted in this colour but it is definitely unique and I haven’t seen one similarZ The paint has been taken care of and it is cleaned regularly. There is absolutely no rust on the car, none on the sills or arches (pictured). The only let down with the bodywork is that a car stalled behind me and scraped the rear bumper, there are 3 very small scratches in the paintwork that could do with sorting although it hasn’t ever bothered me.
The interior is extremely comfortable and is in pristine condition. The seats are very cushioned and feel supportive when you’re sat. There is also space built into the seats for a harness, no rips or stains anywhere and they’re on adjustable rails. A genuine leather MOMO steering wheel and boss are fitted too. Everything in the car works perfectly, Sony Head unit installed with Bluetooth, Aux, USB etc.. Car also comes with other small bits like immobiliser etc.. I’m sure I’ve forgot to mention a few.
Unfortunately, the car had been sat in the sun for a while before the previous owner sold it and the roof seems to have become oddly faded, I’m not sure if this could be sent to a restorer or a hardtop might be best but it is a small let down.
Overall the car is a very clean and hard to come by MK1 that has had a lot of love and care put into it. I have driven it daily for weeks and have loved every second, It’s a true shame that I’m forced to sell. I’d like it to go to an owner that will use it regularly and someone that can afford to properly take care of it. I’m asking a price of £6500 ONO, it’s a complete build ready to take and enjoy.
