one of the rarer limited editions and according to dvla only about 64 cars have a licence for road use out of the 1600 imported.
only three previous owners, the last owner having had the car for 34 years.
comprehensive body restoration, respray, re powder coating of the black parts and the Lemmerz GT Sports wheels in the last ownership around 2010.
original seats bearing little fading to the denim material are exemplary due to having seat covers fitted. The headlining, the short version on the jeans edition is unmarked.
recent major braking system upgrade replacing the drum system to discs all round and new shock absorbers fitted front and rear.
many new engine ancilliary parts fitted recently, carburettor, fuel pump, distributor, ignition coil and leads, alternator and battery.
the car was purchased from the last owner, an elderly gentleman who was retiring from motoring, through his local garage two years ago.
the body restoration included the fitting of four new steel wings and full doors which have been waxoyled. The paintwork having benefited from a full respray in 2 pack paint still looks good today and retains a deep shine. Cars for the german and other overseas markets were available in yellow, orange and red. The exterior was painted in yellow and the interior left in the original colour. Underneath the car the chassis, floor pans, wheel arches, suspension components are in good condition/ order and well undersealed. The restoration also included the re powder coating of all five lemmerz wheels, bumpers, bumper irons and other black parts.
it is rare to find an interior with such good denim seat covers, blue door cards and rear panels. It of course has the painted metal dashboard which houses the original blaupunkt wolfsburg radio which is in working order.
the 1200 cc engine is quite peppy and the car pulls strongly through the gears with easy shifting up and down due to good synchromesh. Reverse is also easy to select a common fault on these cars. the car has the correct vacuum advance distributor and the factory fitted air cleaner with the warm air pipe, all often lacking on these cars, making the car more responsive and improving the fuel consumption. The current owner uses the car on a regular basis for runs of over 50 miles giving a good fuel consumption with over 100 miles on three gallons of fuel. The brakes with the upgrade to discs all round give good stopping power. The recent new shock absorbers enhance the suspension and hence make for a good ride on poor surfaces. the speedometer displays mph and is very accurate, however the oddometer is not working and appears to have been like that for some time, so the true mileage is unknown. The spare wheel has a new unused tyre, the others have done little mileage.
the car had an mot when purchased, with an advisory of cracking in the side walls of two tyres, these were replaced with new ones at the time. It is of course mot and road tax exempt, the last mot expiring 18 may 2021 with only around 1200 miles covered since. It has had a recent service of engine oil change, new spark plugs and front wheel bearings re-grease. there are some useful spare parts included.
the jeans beetle with its distinctive exterior and interior is just a little bit more special than all the rest and is a 'stand out in the crowd' car attracting a lot of attention.
