I bought this classic Matchless in 2004 as a complete machine described as being in 'oily rag condition'.
I then spent the next three years completing a full 'nut and bolt' restoration bringing it to the beautiful condition you see today.
It's had very little use since 2007 covering less than 200 miles in 15 years.
Always stored in a heated workshop.
Work completed as follows:
Frame, swinging arm, tank, mudguards and all tin wear blasted back to bear metal and then repainted by Glenn at GD Design (via the Matchless owners club)
Wheel hubs fitted with new rims and stainless spokes by Central Wheel Components
All chrome parts re chromed by Vehicle & General Electroplaters in Arlesey.
Engine work - including unleaded conversion - completed by T&L Engineering in Elstow
New seat from R K Leighton
Majority of new parts from Jampot Spares, Russell Motors, Andrew Engineering Ltd and AMC Spares Ltd
Speedo, Dynamo and Magneto all fully refurbished
All new nuts and bolts supplied in stainless steel by Icarus M/ C Development
Last year I fitted new Avon tyres, repainted the cylinder barrel, cleaned inside the petrol tank (see photo) and fitted a DVR2 electronic dynamo regulator & cut-out (+ve earth) from Dynamo Regulators (installed in the original regulator box)
Thousands spent, no expense spared.
V5C is in my name. Bike is currently taxed for road use (£0 as historic vehicle).
Ready for summer use, shows etc.
Very sad to see the bike go but I need the space for a new project.
