Description
I have had the great privilege of owning this car for 11 years. We have toured the loire valley, the dordoigne and even crossed the border into spain. It has never let us down. It has quite simply been a joy to own. However, with the arrival of grandchildren, our priorities have changed and the car is just not getting used enough. Having said that, it is much admired & in great condition with thousands having been spent upon it.. all evidenced by photographs and multiple receipts. However, Its time now to pass it on to someone who will enjoy it as much as we have.
the car was built by the triumph standard motor co, in canley, coventry on 19th december 1968. it was exported to california on 23rd january 1969, where it stayed in the los angeles area for the first few years of its life. In 1994, it was brought back to the uk by a mr d m bird and underwent a full "body off" restoration that lasted five years and cost over £25, 000! during this time it was converted to a full uk specification car. (needless to say i have receipts and photographs from that period)
in 2001, dr vernon bettle purchased the car, and extensive development work was carried out on the engine, transmission and suspension, with once again receipts running into thousands.
engine: Original block fully rebuilt with 1mm o/ s je forged pistons, new original crankshaft and lightweight flywheel, all fully balanced. Camshaft bearings were inserted in the block and the crank thrust bearings doubled up and pinned to give full circle thrusts - all machining was done by scholar engineering. The engine has a newman ph2 (fast road) cam, a ported and polished head with bronzed guides and roller rockers to reduce valve gear loads (standard ratio) the ignition and fuel injection are fully mapped, using bosch injectors in tr6 throttle bodies with a broad band lamda sensor. An emerald k3 ecu controls the system and the whole thing was set up by mr dave walker at emerald.
transmission: Gearbox rebuilt by racetorations. Strengthened lay shaft bearings and high ratio j type overdrive with 3. 7:1 differential - 26mph/ 1000 rpm in o/ d top.
suspension: Poly bushes and konis all round - using the revington conversion at the rear. The rear geometry has been set up properly for camber and toe-in.
during my tenure, i have upgraded the seats with full leather mx5 replacements, replaced the drive shafts with protech upgrades, upgraded the discs and brakes with ebc units and the headlights and rear lights with led units.
as mentioned in the title this is an award winning car. During my time it has won the nlg "best tr6" award and the prestigious "pride of ownership" award at the tr register international meeting at harrogate. Only last year i was asked to show it in the arena at the tr register international meeting in malvern.
finally, thank you for looking and please know that this is an honest, solid and highly desirable car and well worth taking look at. . Thank you for your interest.
