For sale is my W124 E320 cabriolet, which I have owned for 6 years. It benefits from having had thousands (easily well over £12-13k) spent during my ownership, in which I have covered only 10, 000 miles or so. Safe to say that most of the restoration took place at around 176k on the odometer, so you can trust that most of the parts will have covered 6k at best. Here's a rough run down of what I have done with the car in approximate chronological order:
Brand new main engine wiring loom from MB
18" inch genuine AMG monoblock wheels which actually fit nicely (unlike most others that you might see fitted to a W124)
H&R lowering springs
Replacement radiator, cooling fan, belt tensioner
Refurbished main roof cylinders from Top Hydraulics in the USA
Facelift rear tail lights
Refurbished 14" 'pepperpot' wheels
New rear suspension arms (all 8 and also the axle stub bushes too)
New windsheild
Bilstein B8 front and rear shock absorbers incl. top mounts
Underbody ground, rust treated and coated
Subframe removed, powder coated and new MB bushes pressed in (also for the diff mounting points too)
New front suspension arms all over, including wishbones, ball-joints, steering damper, drag arm link etc
Full respray in Nautic Blau Metallic
Refurbished steering box
New engine and transmission mounts
New mohair roof and premium headliner from Car Hood Warehouse
Rebuilt seat belt butlers with new plastic gears on both sides
Re-colonised leather interior
New speakers front and rear
Rebuilt wiper arm mechanism (ie, it doesn't have the painfully tired/ slow wiper action that most W124s suffer from)
New heater blower motor fan
Brake discs all over and rear pads (I think the front pads are due soon)
Transmission/ diff fluid, oil changes, spark plugs, etc - most recent service I did was in the autumn last year
As you can see, a lot of time and love has gone into the car - if you have any appreciation of classic car maintenance, you will understand that this is a pretty extensive and comprehensive restoration and not your usual "££££ spent" with not much to show for it. Visually the car is as good as you can see in the pictures and I can't see any rust on the car
Alas, the love has gone and I have way too many cars to have the will to continue with this car, so it's time for somebody else to take care of it from here onwards. I'm extremely busy these days with a house-project and business that I'm planning to open soon, so I don't have the time to take care of a few niggles that would see it in even better condition. These are:
Small rocker cover leak which is causing some smoke as it drips onto the exhaust
ABS light is on (I believe this will be the OVP relay)
Passenger seat belt butler sensor needs replacing as it has a mind of it's own and randomly pokes outwards if the belt isn't clipped into the buckle
Little clips that hold side flaps when the roof is down have fallen into their recesses and need to be fished out (I'll try and address this soon myself though)
Couple of scuffs on the rear bumper lower 'matte' part
It's a very old car, so it won't be perfect, however nor is it priced at the top of the market. However for an enthusiast looking for a great E320 cabriolet and can see past the issues listed above it would be a beautiful addition to ones collection. I'm open to sensible offers, as I have 9 cars and looking to get the fleet down to 4 or 5 pretty soon.
