Description
Purchased by my brother in 1991, in more or less original condition, but in need of a complete strip down and rebuild. Work started soon thereafter, but illness stalled the process and when it became apparent in 2017 that he would be unable to finish putting it back together I took over the task of restoring and returning it to the road.
The engine and gear box have been stripped and rebuilt with new bearings, sprockets, etc. New primary and rear chains. The magneto, dynamo and voltage control unit have been serviced. A new electrical harness is fitted together with a genuine, newly-charged Exide lead acid battery. Stainless wheel rims and spokes have been fitted for ease of maintenance and upkeep. The front wheel has the correct offset dimpling for the 20 inch rim and both front and rear are shod with Avon Speedmaster and Safety Mileage tyres and tubes. The Smiths chronometric speedometer has been serviced and re-calibrated. Original parts have been used where possible. All frame parts have been stripped and repainted amaranth red and black, as appropriate. (The headlamp shell is painted rather than chrome plated, as this was the way it was on the original bike.)
The Speed Twin has done 180 or so miles, since putting it back on the road. The last run out at the end of April 2022 covered a distance of 86 miles. At the end of which it won the award for Best Machine (out of 18 entries).
The sale is on behalf of my brother and his family.
