The Austin is in lovely condition and looks very smart in dark green with black roof and wings.
It has a matching dark green interior in similarly excellent order and which is very original with only the front seat squabs having been reupholstered. Dark green carpets are fitted to the floor.
This Austin was first registered on 23rd May 1934 in Chelmsford and has spent the majority of its life in Essex. The car was not used between 1965 and 1993 and the mileage of 79, 700 is believed to be genuine.
Being a 1934 car, it is one of the last upright radiator Austin 7s as the Ruby was introduced in August of that year. A De Luxe model, it features a Pytchley sliding roof, sun visor, rear window privacy blind and chrome headlights.
Our car drives extremely well with everything working as it should. The gearbox (no synchro on 2nd) is a joy to use and the brakes are effective, unlike those on many 7s. All the instruments work as do the semaphore indicators.
It has recently been fitted with a full set of Longstone’s triple stud tyres which look absolutely correct and a new battery. The electrics are wired negative earth and all the bulbs are LED which give the dynamo a much easier time.
There is a small history file which contains a buff logbook, old MoT certificates and receipts. A large wicker basket comes with the car which mounts on the folding rack at the back. There is also a small quantity of spare parts with the car.
Austin 7s are very well catered for by numerous specialists and clubs and so make an ideal introduction to pre-war motoring.
This year is the centenary of the baby Austin and this example is absolutely ready to join in the celebrations.

Please see the St Andrews Youtube channel for a video of the car.

Apparently inspired by the Peugeot Quadrilette, the now immortal Austin Seven was announced in 1922. It is amazing to think that its tiny splash-lubricated 696cc (soon increased to 747cc) engine was the design of an 18-year old draughtsman called Stanley Edge, and the Seven immediately became the smallest four cylinder-engined ...
