The S1 Sport 135 is arguably the most revered of all the Elises, and that's not merely my humble opinion; it was runner-up in Evo's car of the year '98, missing out on the overall win by a single point.
This one is #48 of the first batch of 50 cars, and came standard from the factory with the engine enhancements to produce 135bhp, close ratio gearbox, red and black alcantara steering wheel and Corbeau seats, alloy window winders, dark blue hood and factory hardtop.
This example has been upgraded with an extensive range of parts – improving performance and solving many of the numerous common Elise issues – while still retaining the fabulous beating heart of the original factory Sport 135.
These upgrades include:
Eliseparts alloy bell discs
Braided brake hoses
Pagid RS12 pads
Nitron NTR Fast Road suspension
Powdercoated wishbones all round
Yokohama AD08R tyres all round with loads of tread left
Aluminium radiator
Gear linkage bushing kit
Lightweight battery
Polycarbonate rear screen
Momo Mod 78 steering wheel (original steering wheel included - needs refurb)
Jansport 4-2-1 manifold
Brooke Kensington S/ S exhaust
Hurricane induction kit
Also included are:
Harness bar and harnesses
Outdoor breathable cover
Padded hardtop bag
Original owner’s manual and spare key
I’ve owned it for nearly 12 years now, and as such it has a raft of history and invoices, even going back to adverts from the previous owners.
Condition
Good points
There are no known mechanical or electrical faults.
Overall the exterior is in good condition considering it’s now 23 years old and has spent most of its life stored outdoors.
The interior is also in good condition – the worst aspect is that there’s a bit of fading to the Corbeau seat cushions.
Bad points
There are a few minor scuffs to the underside of the front and rear clam likely owing to how low the car is. They are no more than scrapes however.
The paint is micro-blistering in various areas around the car. The worst affected areas are the doors and the back of the rear clam, around the lights. I have attached photos of and can provide more on request.
The lacquer on the wheels has cracked in a few high use areas around the wheel but recesses.
The driver’s side sill bolster is worn - this is just from getting in and out and has been like this since I bought it.
Service History
Since 2013 it has been looked after by Lotus specialist Analogue Automotive. Before that it was serviced by Back On Track.
The last A Service was carried out in 2019 and has covered just 560 miles since then, but I will get it serviced by Analogue Automotive before selling it.
As much as it pains me to sell this, with very little time to drive it anymore, it's the sensible thing to do. I’ve absolutely loved owning this little car and been on some memorable trips in it, but with so little use, it’s time to pass the baton and let someone else enjoy it. It deserves to be used!
