I have decided to reluctantly sell my Ford Sierra XR4x4.
One of SVE’s finest creations was the FF-derived 4x4 system implemented into the Sierra (and Granada) model range. The affordable four wheel drive system and wider family appeal of the XR4x4 was an immediate success and marked an increase in sales when compared to the predecessor, the XR4i.
THE CAR
G30 BVW was built 11/ 12/ 1989 and registered 09/ 03/ 1990. It is a 2. 9 EFi model which are more refined and smoother than the previous 2. 8 engine variant. Specification was revised to the Ghia level too, making it more appealing and luxurious. I have owned the car since 2008, and the car has had 7 previous owners, including one owner from 1994 to 2004.
EQUIPMENT
Standard Sierra XR4x4 equipment for the build date (December 1989) which includes driving lamps, heated rear window, sports steering wheel, overhead console with map lamps, digital clock, graphic information module, low temperature warning, sunroof, electric and heated door mirrors, electric windows front and rear, ABS brakes, central locking, tinted glass and heated front windscreen.
EXTERIOR
This outstanding example is finished in the stunning factory colour of Radiant Red (code P9). The exterior was subject of a bare metal respray in 2010 and still presents itself as fresh and perfectly presentable, in excellent condition. All panels are straight and the underside is clean. It is structurally in excellent condition and unspoilt. The XR4x4-specific moulded trims are present. The sunroof is intact and water tight. Correct decals and badges.
INTERIOR
The fabric sports seats are trimmed in Astral grey (code L1) with matching door cards and colour scheme carpeting. The seats are clean and free from major wear, and the door cards are factory fresh. The carpeted areas are very clean, as is the cloth headlining.
The perfect dashboard and fascia is free from cracks as Ford intended, even down to the factory ECU2/ 2007 keycode stereo with the amplifier beneath. The digital clock and graphic information module work. There is evidence of a period carphone on the lower dash on the passenger side and some aftermarket speakers in the dash. A Cosworth leather-rimmed 3 spoke sports steering wheel is undamaged and compliments the unmolested and clean interior. Original steering wheel also supplied.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The later Cologne 2. 9 V6 is as it should be. The engine bay is in excellent condition, only the rocker covers could benefit from powder coating to bring it up to the standard of the rest. All are strong and perform well.
The exhaust is a stainless steel item custom made by Longlife.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five original matching RS 7 spoke wheels are presented in excellent condition and all are matching date-stamped. 4 brand new Uniroyal tyres are OE spec and the ABS brakes are too.
HISTORY FILE
This example has covered around 139, 571 miles from brand new, fully supported by a documented service and maintenance service history (including MoT’s). All handbooks are present too.
OVERALL
This example represents surely one of the most honest examples of the XR4x4 remaining. These are becoming collectable and stabilising in value.
This car is known on the XR Owners Club scene and was a regular at shows in the past 10 years.
Life moves on and I have decided that it’s time that myself and the car part ways. It has seen little use in recent times and would benefit from being out there getting used and enjoyed.
(The MoT history is a little over-zealous but I can assure you the car is not rotten - very little expenditure would resolve these points for the next owner).
