This Alvis TA21 Drophead was ordered new by Dr. Patrick Longford to celebrate the birth of his son Nicholas. He waited specifically for the upgraded model featuring SU Carbs and raised rear axle ratio. It should be noted that it has subsequently been fitted with a TD cylinder head for enhanced performance and electric power steering for ease of driving. Most interestingly he specified unique to this Alvis, Zebrano woodwork. Zebrano is a West-African Tropical hard-wood which Dr Longford had seen and admired on a Daimler at the 1951 Earls Court Motorshow. It is a rich golden colour, quite stunning. Dr Patrick Longford subsequently bought an Alvis TF 21 Saloon from our company in late 1967/ 68. We remain in contact with his son Dr. Nicholas Longford. Nicholas sold it to Mr. Terrance Smith in 1998 via Earley Engineering who carried out a thorough and fully documented restoration, although it should be noted it was an up and running motorcar before restoration. We have photos of it emerging from the coach house where it lived for the first 46 years. We purchased it from Mr Smith and sold it to the most recent owner in 2010. We have considerable paperwork with this unique motorcar.
