The series W 111 Mercedes coupés and convertibles were truly elegant creations. Continuously improved over the years with the models 220 SEb, 300 SE and also the 280 SE, these special models remained sought after. One last highlight was the model with a newly developed 3. 5 liter V-8 engine. This is how the elite classics stayed in the program as “flat coolers” between November 1969 and July 1971. In terms of production size, of the convertible, 1, 232 models were built and 3, 270 of the coupé. At the end of their sale, there was still demand for a large, 4-seater convertible so the idea was born to convert coupés into convertibles. Careful rebuilding following direction by Mercedes led to good results.
Our Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3. 5 Cabriolet is such a conversion so it was available in manual transmission. This classic was restored in 1986 and while it shows some wear and tear, its foundation is solid. Its price is less than 1/ 3 of the original sales price but it’s just as fun to drive!
