Beschreibung
A 52" penny farthing or ordinary bicycle. No makers markings are visible, but it does have a lot of features that point towards Rudge as being the manufacturer. A very high quality bicycle in need of restoration if it were to be ridden!. The bicycle frame appears sound and is complete with original cranks, pedals, saddle pan ( with later Brooks leather top), original brake lever and spoon. Ball bearings to the front and rear hubs. The top of the fork has lost its original adjuster for the fork and spine, so a correct pattern example would need to machined. But the one currently fitted is ok and does the job; although a little crude.
Stamped on the spine neck ( see image) Frame number: 37226 - 52 (which denotes the wheel diameter.
Radial spoking to both wheels. The rear wheel appears to be OK, but the front wheel does have some broken spokes and it would be advisable to rebuild the wheels with new spokes, if it was to be ridden.
Rudge produced very high quality bicycles at the time and were very well respected by the riders of the time. This bicycle has all the trademark features of them and is a fabulous opportunity for anyone looking for an original bicycle to restore.
