We are very pleased to offer a rare low mileage 1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP. Finished in gleaming Flame red with a contrasting white roof and bonnet stripes, this stunning Mini Cooper has covered only 67k in 32 years and spent 20 years in a private collection where it was carefully stored and preserved. It is accompanied with the original handbooks and a raft of service receipts. RSP was a special department inside Rover and it stood for Rover Special Products. 1600 RSP Minis were produced as a pre production Mini Cooper, mainly to test the market before the main stream Cooper was relaunched after a 20 year gap. 1050 stayed in the UK in three colours and very few remain in this condition. They have many unique details that were only ever fitted to the RSP such as the Tudor sunroof, Minilite wheels with a unique stud pattern, embossed leather seats, colour coded arches and mirrors, unique spotlights, there are other details which I am happy to confirm this example has all of them and is correct and it even has a guide to identify itself! They have always been a very coveted edition as they are true carb Coopers. It also has a very cool BMC number plate.
On the road this Cooper is a real experience. It feels new and taught as such a low mileage example should. The 1275 engine is super smooth and free revving and the gearbox has a slick and precise change. RSP Minis were fitted with the MG Metro engine and they are known to perform like a good Cooper should. They also have an oil cooler. The performance will certainly surprise, this is a real drivers machine and very useable. It has wider profile Yokohama tyres and a side exit Maniflow exhaust system, so it handles amazingly and also has a subtle Cooper burble.
The interior is in its complete factory specification and shows no real sign of use. The seats, carpets and roof liner are all like new. The three clock binnacle with rev counter has green dials, the steering wheel is finished in red leather and it has a wonderful period Sanyo snatch plate cassette player in full working order. It also has a 12V socket. The seats are the same pattern as the Mini 30, half leather with a Mini Cooper logo tab. Its just a pleasure to sit in this car!
As you can imagine, this RSP has a very well preserved body shell and its been a pleasure to work on. This is an unrestored example and it wears its vintage very well. It has evidence of being wax oiled from new. It has its original vented sills, gleaming body coloured floor pans and boot floor and and the original rear subframe still looks new. All of the original under floor sound proofing is in tact and unmarked. The glass is also all original and etched. with the registration number. The paintwork is gleaming and this Cooper really will make its new owner very proud.
We have fully serviced, checked, tuned and driven this super Cooper and it also has a long no advisory MOT. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a real piece of Classic Mini Cooper history that will be happy to sit on display or making you smile out on the open road where it belongs.
