Footnotes
Following the enormous success of the AlfaSud Trofeo race series, Alfa Romeo decided to introduce the Alfa Sprint Trofeo in 1982. This car's bodyshell, taken from a batch of fewer than 1, 000 on the production line, was sent to the famous Italian Team Bigazzi in San Gimignano, near Siena. Aldo Bigazzi tuned the car using Autodelta's mechanical components and its aerodynamic body kit, including extended wheelarches. Team Bigazzi won the first championship in 1982 with this Alfa Sprint.

In the 1983 the car took part in the Trofeo Sprint Europa with Luigi Calamai as driver, having been fitted by Bigazzi with an improved Autodelta kit that brought the weight down to750kg. The Spanish opposition was very strong, but at the end of the season, and following a hotly contested final round at Jarama, Calamai defeated Spain's Perez Sala to bring the title back to Italy.

Following the Trofeo's cancellation, in 1984 the Alfa was retired to the Autolodi garage in Milan, remaining there until early 2000 when it returned to Team Bigazzi to be restored. However, the project never got under way and the car remained untouched for the next 14 years. It was then that the current owner purchased the Alfa from Aldo Bigazzi and carried out a sympathetic restoration, even preserving the last stickers from Jarama on the roll cage and the redundant mounting holes from the first Autodelta body kit. Representing a rare opportunity to own piece of Alfa Romeo's glorious competition history, the car remains substantially original today and is presented in overall good condition. The accompanying history file contains numerous contemporary press cuttings and photographs of the car in action.
