Description

If we summarize the Alfa Romeo brand, it is best to say that they are sporty cars with racing genes that are also practical. One of the best examples of this is the Alfa Romeo GT Junior. A sporty coupe that, whether or not in GTA form, has won just about everything there is to win in motorsport. In addition, it is also one of the most beautiful 2+2s that have been made, so, logically, the coupé drawn by Bertone has such an enthusiastic crowd of enthusiasts.

The most beloved of all is the early series. These can be recognized by the slit in the front of the hood, which quickly gave the car the nickname ‘letter box’. Or as in Italian ‘scalino’, which means step. The headlights are placed a little further in and the flat dashboard with inlaid gauges is another typical feature of this model.

It is exactly that performance you see here. This ’67 GT Junior was originally delivered in Italy and has several points that make it a very interesting car. First up is the colour scheme: although red and white are very popular because of their link with racing, Bluette with red trim is one of the most stylish combinations that could be chosen. Another plus is the very original condition. The car has been provided with a new coat of paint in the colour in which it left the factory in the distant past, but otherwise, the car is very original. It provides a look that immediately creates a big smile. Where many ‘letterboxes’ are nowadays converted into GTA look-a-likes or at least adapted to the modern, sporty driver, this Junior is still really classic. Narrow, stylish steel wheels, a chassis at the original height and the absence of a sports steering wheel or bucket seats: this ‘Bertone’ is one big-time travel.

The sheet metal is in very good condition, rust is foreign to him. The paintwork was renewed decades ago, with minor traces of time, it looks like it is the first paint. The fits are neat and because the car was only used sporadically and was stored warm and dry, the rubbers, aluminium and chrome are all in good condition.

And then the warm red interior. What a combination with the paint and what a fresh condition. Not a freshly restored car but a great atmosphere everywhere you look. The dashboard, controls and rubber floor covering are all undamaged. The door panels are intact, and the seat upholstery is neat and without flaws.

The GT 1300 Junior drives pleasantly and well. With its 1, 290 cc measuring four-cylinder double cam, it was a smooth car in its time. 90 hp and only 930 kilograms ensured that the sprint to 100 could be done in 12. 6 seconds. That ensured that he could compete with bigger, stronger cars. Disc brakes and a five-speed gearbox were also anything but self-evident in the segment. Even today it is still very pleasant and sporty to drive this GT Junior.
The car comes with a stack of invoices and documentation from its past in Italy. This coupé has been known to us for a long time and we, therefore, find it extra fun to be able to offer this very sympathetic Alfa Romeo. In our opinion, this classic is the ideal choice for someone who is looking for a pure and original Bertone from the 60s.
