PRINCIPLE FACTS
This fine Pagoda looks classically beautiful in rare Grey Blue, a shade only offered during the final three years of production from 1969 to 1971. The condition and superb appearance of this W113 has been verified by us, as it's recently passed through our workshops.
This 280SL's blue hue continues on the inside with its durable and highly attractive M-B Tex fabric having survived very well; these cow-free cabins look and feel like real leather but resist wear far more effectively. This Pagoda looked so good it was noticed by the team behind the film Second Nature, a 2003 spy thriller starring Alec Baldwin. Correspondence from the film's vehicle-hire firm can be found within the history folder.
OVERVIEW & EQUIPMENT
Originality is one of the keystones of this Pagoda. It shows multiple signs of retaining factory features, including those tell-tale creases to the front wings, confirming they're both perfectly aligned and OEM. The retaining screws used to secure the grille are also as the engineers at Sindelfingen intended.
You'll notice there's also the number '407' stamped on both data card as well as bonnet and deck lid, proving these are the panels this Pagoda left the factory with. There's not a lot of equipment to speak of in this, or any Pagoda, but a previous owner has seen fit to add an auxiliary jack lead from the stock Becker stereo.
CONDITION SYNOPSIS
The cabin looks just as good too, without many marks to the trim to belie the car's 55-year age. The dashboard, door cards and wood all appear to be original and, despite a few mild signs of wear, don't let the side down. The deep twin-loop carpets still exude the quality of finish expected from such a fine slice of Mercedes-Benz automotive history.
HISTORY FILE
This 280 comes with a load of invoices and MOT certificates to show its on-going care and use. There's an original owner's manual and a copy of the first registration document. More up-to-date, was our work on this SL in 2022, beginning with a fuel system overhaul and pump in October.
Clearly happy with the result, the owner returned the following month, treating the car to one of our renowned inspections. The result of which was some significant work to replace all perishable parts including; belts, prop couplings, brake flexis, plus soft-top and boot seals. The final few tasks included setting up the engine tuning correctly, once we'd replaced the perished fuel tank hoses.
Many more mundane but no less important tasks were carried out over four successive trips to SLSHOP, with this 280SL finally fighting fit after a bill of £12, 408. 97.

In this, the Pagoda's 60th anniversary year, demand for these elegant and exploitable SLs is greater than ever.
