Volvo wanted to have a two-seater coupe sportscar and it all started 1961. After a few years of production of the Volvo P1800 in England at the Jensen factory, Volvo decided to build these cars in Gothenburg Sweden instead. This is how the Volvo P1800S was born since S is for Sweden. Some people would think S was for sport, but it was not any sportier now than when it was built in UK. At first, it was very much the same car, but for the 1965 year model there were some updates. The 1965 Volvo P1800S had:
A new style of bumpers
A new style of wheels
New grill and now black stone chip protection on the rear wheel arches
Inside the Volvo now had much better seats with more adjustment possibilities
A foldable rear seat with leather straps for your suitcase or children
A few more horsepower had been found in the Volvo P1800S B18 engine
Exterior: This is a super healthy and sound body that had very little welding done to it before paint. Only the lower parts of the front fenders and rock panels have been replaced. Otherwise, all original car in fantastic condition. The light blue colour 89 was new for the year and only available in 1965 and 1966. Pretty much all exterior chrome is new or in excellent condition. All decoration trims around the windscreens are new just like hubcaps etc. The Volvo P1800S for sale here has perfect ride height since all parts in the suspension are new.
Interior: Inside the 1965 Volvo P1800S for sale, we find new leather on the seats. A very nice clean cabin with new carpets. The two dashboards in good order and beautiful Smiths instruments. New signal and overdrive levers. This Volvo P1800 has the original seatbelts and the little holders for these. These are rare to find today. The trunk space is like new with new carpet and side panels.
Engine: The Volvo P1800S we have for sale here has the correct engine 496817 for 1965 with 108 SAE horsepower. This engine has recently had a complete rebuild with new bearings and piston rings. Also, the head was rebuilt.
Has covered less than 50 km after engine rebuild
Head was rebuilt and new water pump
New radiator and all water hoses are fitted with correct claps, new heater valve
New fuel pump and fuel tank. Rebuilt carburettors and new air filters
New exhaust system and fittings
All bushings and joints in front and rear end are new
Brake system is completely revised with new callipers up front, rebuilt servo, new pads, hoses etc
New bearing drive shaft
All rubber parts on the entire car are new, doors, windows, trunk etc
Brought back to bare metal before paint and put back together by professional Volvo mechanic
History: This is one of the Volvo P1800S cars that was sent off to America back in 1965. At that time, the only difference was that the text on the knobs was in English. It was not until a few years later that the hideous bumpers and the side markers came along. Spending most of its life in a dry climate is the reason all the original metal on this car is so preserved. Now when all rubber and the interior are replaced, it will be a healthy car to enjoy for many years to come. It was registered again here in Sweden in August 2021 and now has Swedish documents. Invoices collected for work done and all the new parts that have been put into this 1965 Volvo P1800S now for sale. The aim for the work done has been to keep it as original as possible and to make a car that you can and want to use a lot in the future. This Volvo coupe is in a rare and sought-after colour combination. The true mileage is unknown. The speedometer had been reset when it started a new life.
