PRINCIPLE FACTS
It's relatively rare that we sell a steel-topped version of the 107, but for this very special vehicle, we made an exception. This C107 was ordered new in 1980 by Shaikh Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah of Kuwait; a prominent member of that nation's royal family. Bound for royalty in the middle east, it'll come as no surprise to learn that this C107 was very well appointed.
OVERVIEW & EQUIPMENT
Air-conditioning and velour seats make for a very sensible combination in a part of the world where summer temperatures can approach 50 degrees Celsius. To keep an eye on those scorching outside conditions, this SLC was also fitted with an outside temperature gauge and electric windows front and rear.
To top off a Mercedes-Benz fit for a royal, this SLC was optioned with ABS, cruise control premium audio and an alarm/ immobiliser; seriously pricey options at the time.
CONDITION SYNOPSIS
Astral Silver looks great, whatever the weather. With the added comfort of a steel roof, the colour has more room on the bodywork to impress, or equally let the side down. This one very much falls into the former camp, having seen extensive expenditure from its most recent UK owner, from 2018 to date. The interior also presents extremely well, with that 1970s velour really setting it apart and giving a big dose of nostalgia.
We've been fortunate enough to help that same keeper through the process of bringing this coupe back up to a condition fit for a royal. That's involved plenty of work and expense, but the way this C107 looks today makes it all worthwhile.
HISTORY FILE
This 450 was retained by the Kuwaiti royals for 36 years. A declaration of authenticity and mileage confirmation (36, 040) in the history file, signed & dated 28 March, 2016, states that it was to be sold for the first time. That wasn't the first time the car had been in the UK however, seemingly having been the Shaikh's personal transport over here since 1994.
We've a number of stamps in the service booklet from Mercedes-Benz Reading showing oil changes (with Q8, naturally) up to 2002. One further oil change is listed in 2018, but as you're about to discover, the gaps here are rendered moot.
As mentioned already, we were tasked with getting this car back to its best and were honoured to be given the opportunity. There's been a no-expense-spared approach to this recommissioning, with the owner spending over £10k in 2018 alone, having several cosmetic and minor structural issues resolved properly.
There's a heap more invoices bringing the work up-to-date, and not just from us. That former keeper really has invested in this car's future, which is great, as you don't have to.
SLSHOP SUMMARY
Royal cars come onto the market every now and then, often from Gulf states, but few are offered for sale fresh from such extensive recommissioning. If the condition of the car doesn't do enough to convince you, the recent bills in its history should.
