Description
This lovely project was retrieved from a French barn in 2020 along with a cache of parts and projects. It comprises of a rolling chassis that appears to have been partly restored some years ago and then the work stalled. Quarter elliptic rear springs and transverse spring across the front linking the tubular front axle. The engine is dusty, but is nice and complete with Zenith carburettor, magneto and dynamo and is of 667cc. The engine was separate from the car when it was found, but does have the clutch etc. The radiator has not been tested, but appears to be OK with the original Peugeot badge and radiator cap. The gearbox is 3 speed and is within the rear axle and appears to select the gears OK. The rear brake shoes are missing, but shouldn't be too difficult to find. The wheels fitted are beaded edge.
With the project is a set of original front and rear mudguards which with some work; could be ok to be used again. There is also a scuttle fuel tank, a bonnet top, a pedal foot board, fan, dashboard steering column mount, an extra pair of 6 stud well-based wheels and a Peugeot Carte Gris document that might prove useful to register the car once restored. I also have the very poor remains of the back of a period body-frame, which might be useful as a pattern for a new body; a buyer is welcome too have with the project. And I also have a reproduction period technical document detailing chassis details and car specifications that comes with the project.
The Peugeot type 172 cyclecar was a similar in design to the first Austin 7 and this project would be a great fun little car for someone looking to restore a French light car. It's not going to be a land speed record contender, but that isn't the point. It would look great with a sporty little two seat body fitted; of which several examples exist.
