An early Dino 308 GT4 with a complete history, completely original, from an enthusiast's possession !
The example offered here is an early 1st series car that is equipped with the optional 7 inch wide five-spoke rims. The badges on the front and on the steering wheel hub with the lettering “Dino” indicate that at that time the vehicles were not marketed as Ferrari, but under the second brand Dino. The little horses on the radiator grille, rear end and on the wheel hubs were retrofitted by one of the early owners. Only later (Series 2) did Ferrari officially market the car under the Ferrari brand.
Model history
The Dino 308 GT4 was presented in 1972 as the successor of the 246 GT. It was a radical step forward as it came with a V8 engine instead of the V6 and a wedge shaped modern body style designed by Bertone (instead of the long-term Ferrari partner Pininfarina). Although maintaining the transverse mid-engine layout of its predecessor, the new model could accomodate small rear seats.
The initial reception of the new model was mixed, as many Ferraristi at the time preferred the Pininfarina design language over the unaccustomed Bertone style. To help sales, the 308 GT4 was badged as a Ferrari from the year 1977. Production ended in 1980 when the successor Mondial entered the scene. Nowadays, the formerly controversial shape of the 308 GT4 is regarded by many as a masterpiece of the 1970. s sportscar design and the last Dino has become a collector's piece for Ferraristi around the world.
