The Catalunya was built to celebrate Colin McRae winning the Catalunya round of the previous year's World Rally Championship
It was based on the UK 'Turbo 2000' with some attractive upgrades such as body colour-matched door handles and mirrors, red and black upgraded seats and door trims, a numbered plaque, air-conditioning, interior mats with logos and Limited Edition Catalunya badges
The model sat on 16" gold alloy wheels, and like the previous McRae model, just 200 cars were produced by Prodrive. It was priced at £21, 160 and entered dealerships in March 1997
This smart example is 105/ 200 and looks very impressive in Black Mica (tiny red flecks) with gold alloys and unusually, features a black leather interior which was specified from new
It's powered by the stunning EJ20 2. 0 boxer engine with that amazing burbling exhaust sound, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A new cambelt and a new clutch were both fitted within the last couple of hundred miles
Records indicate that there are only 100 of these cars left in the UK (mid-2022) of which only 17 are currently on the road.
This Catalunya is an appreciating, original, classic and unmolested cars are getting harder to find particularly in this cared-for condition. It's accompanied by a good history file containing all of its original manuals and a stamped Service Book
